I discovered there are dozens of beautiful palm species throughout the Coachella Valley. The one that immediately caught my eye was the Silver Bismarck Palm. With its striking silvery-blue fronds, it almost looks like the palm tree decided to dress up for a special occasion. It's elegant, sculptural, and unlike any other palm I had seen before—making it the perfect inspiration for this serigraph.
This piece is dedicated to the unforgettable time my wife, Natasha, and I spent in Paris and Blaye, France. I had the honor of being invited as the first American artist to participate in Arts and Conversations, a key cultural program featured during the annual Blaye en État d'Art contemporary art festival, organized by Blaye Villa des Arts and founded by Fabrice and Rodrigo. The experience left a lasting impression on me, not only because of the incredible artists and conversations, but also because of the warmth, creativity, and vibrant colors that surrounded us throughout our visit.
When we returned to the United States, this was the very first piece I created. The original version featured a bold red background, inspired by the dramatic skies during the Los Angeles wildfires. As I continued reflecting on our time in France, however, I reimagined the piece with a rich sea-green background inspired by the beautiful colors I encountered there. Palm Springs also has a wonderful French community, so this artwork became a natural fusion of France and Palm Springs two places that have deeply inspired me. Since I truly fell in love with France, it only felt right to give the piece a French title.
I hope you'll forgive my accent...
